A personal beginning. An ambition that keeps moving.
Ascanbe began in 2018 with watches created for individual people. Each piece started with a conversation and took shape around the person who would wear it. A particular dial, a choice of colour, the character of a case. Together, those decisions made each watch personal. Working this way shaped our understanding of what a watch can mean to its owner. It also gave Ascanbe its direction: to create watches with a distinct identity, considered in every detail and made to become part of someone’s life.
The conviction behind the name
Ascanbe takes its name from “As Can Be”. It’s the pursuit of getting something exactly where you believe it can be. Not someone else’s idea of perfect. Yours. Keep pushing. Keep refining. Never settle. We bring that mindset to life through watchmaking. In the balance of proportions. The relationship between design and movement. The finish of every surface and the way the watch feels on the wrist. Every decision is part of the pursuit. To get it As Can Be.

From individual watches to a shared identity
The J1 carries that foundation into our first collection. Its angular steel case, contrasting brushed and polished surfaces and open dial express a clear design direction. The Swiss automatic movement is visible within it, making the mechanics part of the watch’s character. The first release is the Limited Founders Edition. 200 individually numbered pieces. 100 in Cosmic Blue and 100 in Racing Green. It is Chapter 01, the beginning of a design identity we intend to develop and deepen with every collection.

The next chapter stays personal
Our ambition is to build a distinctive Dutch watch brand, with the freedom to follow our own design direction and the care to give each detail its due. Atelier Ascanbe continues the one-of-one watches that started our story. The J1 opens that story to more people. Both carry the same conviction: a watch should have a character of its own and a personal place in the life of its wearer.
